Cleary Gottlieb to sponsor ECGI Law Prize
The European Corporate Governance Institute today (4 July 2018) announced a collaboration with the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. The renowned law firm will sponsor the ECGI’s annual prize for the best research working paper in its law series. The ECGI working paper series publishes research papers from around the world on a broad range of corporate governance related topics. The papers are authored or co-authored by appointed ECGI Research Members or Fellows which ensures the continued high calibre of the series. The papers are published on the ECGI website and disseminated to its members worldwide. They are often subsequently published in leading academic journals and books where they are cited exponentially.
The annual prize, which includes a monetary award of EUR 5,000, is announced at the ECGI Annual Members’ Meeting in Spring each year. The winning paper is selected by an editorial committee which currently comprises of Professors Luca Enriques (University of Oxford), John Coates (Harvard Law School), Curtis Milhaupt (Stanford Law School), Niamh Moloney (London School of Economics), Horst Eidenmueller (Oxford) and Amir Licht (IDC Herzliya).
Having previously supported some of the individual researchers of the ECGI, the new collaboration will see Cleary Gottlieb join the ECGI network as an Institutional Member and further support the ECGI agenda of sharing academic research as a public good. Speaking about the announcement, partner Giuseppe Scassellati-Sforzolini said:
“Cleary Gottlieb is delighted to sponsor this important prize and to support independent research by leading academics. As a firm with over 1,200 lawyers from more than 50 countries, working across practices, industries, jurisdictions, and continents, the work of global scholars is extremely valuable. ECGI provides a powerful service by identifying these leading scholars and bringing them together within one organisation to closely examine and debate topics that affect us all in reality.”
The first award under the new collaboration will be in Spring 2019 when the best paper published in the series during 2018 will be announced. A list of past prizewinners in the series is available here.

About the ECGI Working Paper Series
http://www.ecgi.global/content/ecgi-working-paper-series-finance-and-law
The primary purpose of the two series (Law and Finance) is to publish research papers on corporate governance related topics that are authored or co-authored by ECGI Research Members i.e. those who have been elected as ECGI Fellows or nominated as ECGI Research Associates.
The series editors generally apply a broad definition of corporate governance and also include papers on the interface between corporate governance and other areas, or papers of which only a part touches on corporate governance. However, papers in other areas whose relevance for corporate governance is only indirect or methodological are not included.
