Biography

Professor B. Espen Eckbo, born in Norway, is Tuck Centennial Chair Professor of Finance at the Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College (USA), which he joined in 1998. He is also founding director of tTuck's Lindenauer Center for Corporate Governance.

 

Professor Eckbo received his Ph.D at the University of Rochester (USA) in 1981 and was a member of the finance faculty at the University of British Columbia (Canada) from 1981 to 1996. He has held full-time chaired professorships at the Norwegian School of Management, 1993-94, and at the Stockholm School of Economics, 1996-1998. Moreover, he has held visiting positions with teaching respojinsibilities at several universities, including MIT, UCLA, INSEAD, Vanderbilt, the Norwegian School of management, and  the Norwegian School of Economics. 



Professor Eckbo main research is in the areas of investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate restructurings. He publishes regularly in top finance and economics journals. He holds the prestigious Batterymarch Fellowship (1987), and a honorary doctorate at the Norwegian School of Economics (2011). In 2009, he was called by the US congress to testify on the corporate governance aspects of the government's acquisition of financial institutions automobile companies during the financial crisis.

 

Professor Eckbo's business experience includes expert witness in cases involving the market for corporate control and corporate governance issues. He chaired the investment committee of the University of Oslo's endowment fund 1997-1998, and he has been an advisor to the to the trade association of the largest mutual funds in Norway. In 2005, he helped Norway's large sovereign wealth fund define its principal coroprate governance strategy as one of the world's largest international equity investor.
