Biography

Dr. Simon J.D. Schillebeeckx is Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business of SMU. Prior to joining SMU, Simon obtained a PhD in Management from Imperial College London, worked in sustainable innovation consulting, and read Corporate Social Responsibility (MA, Nottingham University) and Commercial Engineering (BSc & MSc, Catholic University of Leuven). Simon’s research focuses on digitization, innovation, and sustainability. He’s considered one of the leading voices on digital sustainability. His work focuses on how digital technologies like blockchain, AI, IOT, and 5G are changing the way we tackle sustainable development.

Outside his academic work, Simon is a co-founder and NED of the Global Mangrove Trust (GMT), a non-profit that orchestrates large scale mangrove reforestation projects and has aided in the development of a OxCarbon, a carbon credit certifier that relies and ultra-scalable digital MRV approaches. In 2019, Simon also co-founded Handprint where he is the Chief Vision Officer. Handprint is a Saas-enabled marketplace that connects companies to the most impactful NGOs and charities and empowers companies to automate and integrate the creation of positive impact into any kind of business process.
