Biography

Professor Johan Sulaeman is a Dean’s Chair at the NUS Business School, where he is also the Director of the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN).  He previously served as the Academic Director of the NUS MSc Finance programme and the Research Director of the Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments (CAMRI).  He teaches various courses involving portfolio and investment strategies, asset allocation and fund management, fixed income assets, derivatives, and hedging strategies.

His current research focuses on sustainable and green finance, as well as the effects of geographic factors (e.g., social norms and culture, regional population demographics) on various economic outcomes, including corporate financial, social, and environmental performance. His research has appeared in top economics and business journals, including the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science. He is a Fellow of the ABFER, and currently serves on the editorial boards of several international finance and economics journals.  

Research Interests

His current research interests focus on sustainability and impact measurement in the context of the financial sector, as well as the effects of geographic factors on various economic outcomes. He also works on research questions related to the effects of ownership structure on corporate decisions, the role of various economic agents in disturbing and maintaining market efficiency, and discriminations in labor markets and the financial and corporate sectors.
