Biography

Professor António S. Mello is Aschenbrener Fellow and Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Wisconsin - Madison - School of Business.


He was Chair in Finance at Imperial College Business School and Head of the School's Finance and Accounting Research Group.


António received his PhD from the University of London and hold an MBA from Columbia University. He has an MA in Economics from Columbia University and Lic from Technical University of Lisbon


António previously held the Frank Graner Chair in finance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has taught at various institutions including the MIT Sloan School of Management. Prior to joining academia, Professor S. Mello was Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Portugal and a member of the Subcommittee of Monetary Policy of European Central Bank Governors.


Professor S. Mello has consulting experience with governments, international institutions, private financial institutions, and corporations worldwide. He is former Director of a private equity firm and currently sits on the investment committee of a REIT. His research centres on corporate financial strategy and hedging, arbitrage and liquidity. He has published widely in leading journals
