Biography

Christophe Clerc is counsel at the law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP. He practices corporate and securities laws for major international groups, with a focus on cross-border mergers & acquisitions and capital market work. He was closely involved in the implementation in France of the Takeover Directive, and more specifically in the design of the new defensive measures which have been included in French law.

He is a member of the Legal Panel (“Comité Juridique”) of the Association Nationale des Sociétés par Actions. The Panel, which is composed of academics, lawyers and representatives of most major French companies, is a leading source in corporate and securities laws.

Christophe Clerc graduated from the Universities of Law of Paris II and Paris I. He holds a diploma of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, with an emphasis on business and finance. He is also a Secrétaire de la Conférence du Stage, a century old legal society selecting 12 lawyers each year to represent the Paris Bar in France and abroad and do pro bono criminal defense work.
