Mr Alvaro Clarke De la Cerda
Biography
Álvaro Clarke De la Cerda is Director of the Center for Executive Management and President of the Corporate Governance Center at the University of Chile. President and main partner of ICR Credit Rating Agency, a Moody's Associate. He has an extensive background in Chilean finance and government, having served as Deputy Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Securities and Insurance Commission, Advisor to the Finance Minister, and Executive Secretary of the Capital Market Committee at the Ministry of Finance. President Michelle Bachelet appointed him as a member of the Presidential Commission for Pension Reform and the Technical Investment Committee of the Pension Funds. He has also held roles as a Board Director of several companies and as a Founding Member of the Latin American Roundtable Task Force on Corporate Governance, World Bank, and OECD.
Internationally, he has been President of ASSAL (Association of Insurance Supervisors of Latin America), President of the Ibero-American Securities Market Institute, Vice President of COSRA (Commission of American Securities Regulators), and Alternate Governor of the Inter-American Development Bank. He has provided advisory services to multilateral organizations (IDB, OECD, CAF, World Bank) and to the governments of Latin American countries on financial sector reforms, governance, capital markets, insurance, and pension systems.
