Biography

A stewardship and corporate governance practitioner in the investment world since 2000, when he joined Hermes and helped create and build its Equity Ownership Service (EOS), the leading stewardship overlay business. Following a brief stint as Head of Investment Affairs at the National Association of Pension Funds, he joined Aberdeen Asset Management as its first global head of governance and stewardship. He left the firm shortly after its merger with Standard Life. In 2021 he joined Redington, an investment consultant advising pension schemes and other asset owners, as its Head of Stewardship and Sustainable Investment Strategy.

Paul is a member of the UK Endorsement Board, responsible for adopting IFRS accounting standards for application in the UK, and chairs its investor advisory group. He was a member of the secretariat for the Brydon Review of the Quality and Effectiveness of Audit and was formerly a member of the Auditing Practices Board.

A long-standing member of ICGN, Paul chaired committees that wrote earlier versions of both its Global Corporate Governance Principles and Stewardship Principles, as well as the committee that created the original Model Mandate. He recently created the ICGN's Corporate Governance Fundamentals training course and has also developed training on stewardship and governance for CFA curriculums.
