Biography

Jan is a guest professor at Ghent University (Financial Law Institute), where he is lecturing and publishing on company law, corporate governance and financial regulations.

He received a law degree (LLM) and a degree in philosophy (MA), both from Louvain University. More recently he completed executive education programs at Harvard Business School (‘Making Corporate Boards more Effective’), INSEAD ('Leading from the Chair'), Henley Business School ('The Board Directors' Programme') and the Institute of Directors (‘Role of the Chair’).

Since 2017 he serves as chairman of the board of directors of Pensioenfonds Metaal/Fonds de Pension Métal, an institution for occupational retirement provision (IORP). He is also a member of its remuneration and nomination committee. From 2009 until 2019 he has served as chairman of the board of directors at Argenta, a banking and insurance group with activities in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg. Before (and until 2008) he has been an international partner with Baker McKenzie, a law firm, with a practice focus on corporate law, financial services, banking and insurance law.
