Biography

David Cafferty has over 30 years’ experience in the fields of corporate governance, financial crime prevention, compliance, anti-money laundering, internal audit, and accounting. He is a Chartered Management Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He is also a UK police-trained financial investigator and fraud investigator. 


David is a member of Hawkamah – the Institute of Corporate Governance (UAE); an International Finance Corporation / Global Corporate Governance Forum accredited trainer and corporate governance advisor; and is registered as an “expert” with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant’s (CIMA) Technical Advisory Group (specialising in financial crime and money laundering); a member of the Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers; a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI); a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; and a member of the UK Fraud Advisory Panel.


His professional activities include working for a Big-4 accounting firm, an international law firm, service with the third largest financial crime unit in the UK, and a number of years acting as a trainer, investigator and consultant in the fields of forensic accounting, corporate governance, financial crime, compliance, and anti-money laundering. David is also the outsourced Compliance Officer / Money Laundering Reporting Officer for a number of financial institutions and has on a number of occasions performed the role of Company Secretary.


Specialist assignments include advising a number of large organisations on the adequacy of their corporate governance systems, fraud risk assessments, financial / internal control reviews, the investigation of criminal cases of serious or complicated frauds, as well as major money laundering and asset recovery assignments.


Speaking engagements have seen David working in many countries around the world and, for example, recent engagements include visits to the UK, Lebanon, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, the Philippines, and the UAE.


 


He is currently a Director - Risk Consulting and Head of Cyber & Information Services for Crowe Mak Limited a member of the Crowe Global Group.
