Biography

Vassilis Christakis has been working at the Black Sea Trade & Development Bank since 2000, serving in a variety of procurement and governance-related posts. He has been the Head of the Bank's Internal Purchasing unit and, subsequently, the Bank's Head of Procurement, in charge of setting up major service contracts, managing equipment purchases, and overseeing the selection and employment of consultants. Mr. Christakis has been involved with the Development Finance Institutions Working Group on Corporate Governance since 2011 and he currently serves as chairman for the year. He led the establishment of corporate governance reviews in the Bank and acts as the focal point for all governance-related issues concerning the Bank's clients.


Mr. Christakis holds a BA (magna cum laude) from Brown University and a Masters of Science in International Diplomacy and Foreign Policy from Georgetown University. He also worked in brief stints in the World Bank in Washington, DC, and UNIDO in Vienna, Austria. He speaks Greek, English, Spanish, French, and Russian.
