Dr Andrew Szonyi
Biography
Andrew J. Szonyi is an engineer from Hungary. His has gained an MASc. (1958), a PhD (1962), an MBA (1972) and LLM (Global Professional 2012) from the University of Toronto.
His is the author of several textbooks:
- Small Business Management Fundamentals McGraw-Hill –four editions since 1979, adapted by over 100 Canadian post-secondary institutions, also translated and published in Hungary
- Principles of Engineering Economic Analysis John Wiley- since 1981, last edition 2010
-The Technical Entrepreneur-MacMillan Co. of Canada 1980
29 unpublished Working Papers and 7 refereed publications
He was Adjunct Professor at University of Toronto 1975- 1980 and Professor of Management and of Engineering, University of Toronto 1980-1990. He was cross-appointed at the Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Applied Sciences and Engineering.
He has been:
- Guest lecturer, course director, visiting professor in Denmark,China,India, Austria and USA
- Consulting Professor, Huazong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, PRRC Professional Development Director of the Association of Canadian Venture Capital Companies
-Visiting Professor of Corporate Governance at the School of Management -Corvinus University of Budapest 2103-2014
In the private sector his experience has been as:
- Manager of Product & New Business Development of Ethyl Corporation of Canada - Founder.principal and operator of three businesses (one IPO) In government and finance:
- Senior Officer of Ontario Development Corporation, negotiated and closed over 180 deals during the 10 years tenure
- Science Council of Canada (member of the Exec.Comm) Board experience:
- On public company boards: 65 cumulative years including 25 years as Audit Chair and Lead Director since Sarbanes-Oxley of 2002
- On Non-Profits: Hospital, Museum,Theatre,Disabled Sailing,Yacht Club,Private College,Aboriginal Business
In May, 2013 elected to the Court of Arbitration for Capital and Financial Markets in Hungary for a five year’s term.
