Prof. Dr. Alexandra Butterstein
Biography
Alexandra Butterstein has been appointed to the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trust Law at the University of Liechtenstein since April 2023, succeeding Prof. Dr. Francesco A. Schurr, a role she had represented since October 2019.
As of 2023, Alexandra Butterstein has served as Dean of the Liechtenstein Business Law School and has been a member of the University of Liechtenstein's Rectorate since 2022. Prior to this position, she held the position of Head of the Institute for Business Law from 2021 to 2022. Additionally, she is the Academic Director of study programmes in fiduciary law and compliance as well as the Executive Master of Laws in Company, Foundation and Trust Law (in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Francesco A. Schurr). Moreover, Alexandra Butterstein is also admitted to the bar in Germany.
In her research, teaching and consulting activities, Alexandra Butterstein has focused on contemporary issues in corporate, company, foundation and trust law with an international perspective. In 2019, she was awarded the Principality of Liechtenstein's Young Researchers Prize, and in 2018, she was presented with the Mentorship Award by the student body of the University of Liechtenstein.
Alexandra Butterstein received her doctorate in 2010 with a dissertation on the comparison of English and German corporate law. Between 2012 and 2014, she completed the Executive Master of Laws in Company, Foundation and Trust Law at the University of Liechtenstein while working as a lawyer. In 2023, she qualified as a professor (habilitation) with a thesis on the cross-border restructuring of foundations.
She is a member of a number of professional organisations, including the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Academic Association for Corporate and Company Law (VGR), the Forum for Young Corporate Law Scholars (JGW), the Association of Young Foundation Experts (VjS) and the Liechtenstein Academic Society (LAG).
