Jason Sandvik (University of Arizona, Eller College of Management) gave the nineteenth lecture in this series on 9 November 2023.
CEO activism—the practice of CEOs taking public stances on environmental, social, and political issues, such as climate change, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigration—is an increasingly common behavior of many corporate executives. Professor Sandvik reviewed the recent trends CEO activism behavior and the related theoretical and empirical research. He discussed how CEO activism is responded to by several important stakeholder groups: a firm's investors, customers, and employees.
Jason Sandvik is an Assistant Professor of Finance. Prior to joining Eller in 2022, he earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Utah and worked at Tulane University. His research interests include empirical corporate finance, labor economics, and disclosure policy. His work has been published in top academic journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Management Science, and the Journal of Accounting Research. His work has been cited in major media outlets such as the Harvard Business Review, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.
The public lecture series is organised by Institute for Corporate Governance (ICG) in partnership with the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University and ECGI.
