Session 2: Corporate purpose and ownership
Speakers' Presentations:
- Morten Bennedsen (Copenhagen Business School and ECGI): Are Family Firms a Force for Good?
- Julian Franks (London Business School and ECGI): Managers Managing Ownership
The modern idea of company purpose calls for responsible long-term ownership, management continuity and financial conservatism. It is potentially the most promising alternative to models of shareholder value and stakeholder value because it addresses weaknesses in these models by providing a clear social objective that is consistent with constrained profit maximization. This session will examine the implementation of corporate purpose through dispersed financial ownership, cooperatives, mutuals, and other ownership structures.
