Daniel Daeniker is the Senior Partner of Homburger AG, one of Switzerland's leading law firms based in Zurich. He studied law at the Universities of Neuchâtel and Zurich, from where he graduated in 1987 and obtained a doctorate in 1992. He also studied at The Law School of the University of Chicago, from where he graduated as an LL.M. in 1996. He was admitted to the bar in 1990.
Daniel Daeniker joined Homburger AG as a trainee in 1988, after gaining professional experience in Switzerland, Panama and Hong Kong, and as an associate in 1991. He was made a partner in 2000. He was head of the Corporate / M&A practice group from 2009 to 2014, was Managing Partner from 2013 to 2019, and now is the Senior Partner of the firm.
Daniel's practice focuses on mergers & acquisitions, equity capital markets, financial services regulation and corporate governance. Daniel advised Nestlé S.A. on the spin-off of Alcon, Inc. in 2002 and its merger into Novartis in 2010/11; UBS AG on the raising of an aggregate of USD 45 bn. in the wake of the 2007/08 financial crisis, related shareholders' meetings and regulatory investigations; Holcim Ltd. on its Indian investments 2004-2011 and on its merger with Lafarge S.A. in 2014/15; Johnson & Johnson in its acquisition of Actelion in 2016; UBS in 2018 in the financing of the Sika settlement with St. Gobain; and Liberty Global in its 2019 sale of UPC Switzerland to Sunrise. He also acts as advisor to a number of listed company boards.
Daniel is a director of dormakaba Holding AG, a Swiss listed company, where he chairs the Audit Committee, of Hilti AG, where he is a member of the Audit Committee, and of Rothschild & Co SCA, Paris. He is a lecturer in law at the University of Zurich, a member of the editorial board of the periodical GesKR (Zeitschrift für Gesellschafts- und Kapitalmarktrecht), and a member of the Visiting Committee of the University of Chicago Law School.
